Rise and Fall is a kinetic art exhibition by Chris Purdie using the motion of clocks to reveal and destroy. One group of clocks works together to lift a house while a grandfather clock slowly pulls itself over. Watch the grandfather clock inch its way to destruction on a live stream at www.bdac.org/chrispurdie starting May 31.

In Between a Site and a Home, Madison Donnelly and Christian Casas ask us to question the values we assign to household objects and the disposable materials used to construct our domestic and urban landscapes. The result is an exhibition of familiar objects and materials removed from their natural context and reworked into an unfamiliar domestic experience.

This series juxtaposes plastic bags, a common disposable material, with an ancient craft and symbol of cultural identity. Since the dawn of the digital age, it is less common for children to learn traditional skills at the knee of a grandparent or parent. We have a wealth of knowledge at our fingertips, but at what cost? What skills and culture are we passing on to the next generation?

Visual Perceptions: Constructs, Series II

Lewis J. Crawford

More info: bdac.org/lewiscrawford

Lewis Crawford wants the viewer to make connections between shape and form, positive and negative space, and the relationship between signifier and signified. By combing Gestalt theories, the psychology of visual perception, and Russian Constructivist ideas of minimalism, Crawford constructs images using a camera, computer, printer, and plotter to draw and emboss the compositions.
